Mortality Newsletter

Does anyone out there have a mortality newsletter they would like to share. I need to write one for our physician and could you some help organizing my thoughts. I am trying to focus the discussion on the need to document cause of death and any corresponding diagnoses that might accompany the dying process.
Thank you
Mary

A subject that is very much on my hotlist. Unfortunately we do not have the ability to stratify SOI/ROM without the 3m grouper. If anyone has done such a project using other methods, would appreciate your input.

It certainly is a challenge from the perspective of mortality without the expensive direct software or consulting support.

December 2009 ACDIS Journal had this article:
Avoid the CMI trap: Measure your CDI program using severity-adjusted data
    http://www.hcpro.com/acdis/details.cfm?topic=WS_ACD_JNL&content_id=225223

    and in Jan 2010:
Improve predicted mortality rates through documentation
    http://www.hcpro.com/acdis/details.cfm?topic=WS_ACD_JNL&content_id=244323

Other methods -- if you are at an academic medical center, then almost certainly your hospital is part of University Healthsystems Consortium (www.uhc.edu) and they have a great comparative database that is very helpful for benchmarking against other centers, including specifics on mortality.
