A Hunting We Will Go...

I read something in the last threads about the 7 day post discharge d/c summary deadline that got me wondering...
How many of you go hunting your doctors to bring them unanswered queries etc?

While in the process of becoming an electronic health record, some docs are only doing the charts electronically so they are not looking at the physical chart. Since we don't yet have a process for our queries to be electronic it causing us to flex our creativity muscles.

Anyone else have this issue? What solutions have you come up with?

We are still part paper and part electronic....but we hunt our docs down...there are a few who are always non compliant.

We have electronic queries however, we still have to go hunting. Once the coder sends the chart back to the CDI with the unanswered query, we have a 2 wk time frame to get answers which is usually more than enough. We call the office to engage the nurses' help, track them down on the floor, send another electronic message. We make up to 3 attempts in that 2 wk time period and if no success, we release it as a no response on that doc. We track those for UR along with missed dollars. We have very few no responses even though their response may be no.
