Yes, I have a Masters degree in social work and was asked by our
facility to take on the role of CDI specialist when our program was
first developed two years ago. I had some clinical background from
working in an ICU but I have definitely learned a lot! I didn't know
anything about HIM/coding and CDI when I went to college for social
work. I really find CDI interesting and probably would have chosen to
focus on it instead if I had to do it over again. Sometimes it's
interesting how life works out. If I hadn't gone to school to become a
social worker, I wouldn't have been employed by my hospital and I never
would have been asked to work with our CDI program. I really enjoyed
working as an ICU social worker but I really like CDI too!
