AIHCD-Association for Integrity in Healthcare Documentation

One of my staff members brought this group to my attention. By going to their website I see that Glenn Krause is a Committee Member and serves on our board as well. Could someone educate me as to the purpose of this group in relationship to ACDIS? Does it include areas that we as an association do not and perhaps should address? Should we as CDSs or Managers of a CDI Program be involved with this group as well?

AIHCD is another Association much like ACDIS but through Docu-Comp. Currently they are the "other" CDS certification- they may have actually been first to offer a certification in documentation. Once you have completed their seminar you sit for an exam to receive your credential.

Glenn could probably tell us more because he is a C-CDI.
  • Thanks. If one is already certified through ACDIS (CCDS)does it make sense to sit for their exam as well? Is there a significant difference between the exams?

It shouldn't. It really should come down to "can you do the job"?

CDI is a relatively new profession and certification is a new area. Seems many programs have jumped into the certification arena. AHIMA has just announced their new credential, "Certified Documentation Integrity Practitioner" or CDIP.

Most of these associations and certification have the same goal and that is to test and support the knowledge base of those who perform the job.

(But...they also collect $$ for these services as well... :) )

I think it is good to recognize there are other entities providing these services - several "means to an end". You never know if a potential job candidate will show up with a CDIP or C-CDI behind their name.

Amongst professionals there is always a tendency to label which is best. But doing the job should be the most improtant aspect. (To me.)
