My new boss offered me the chance to take the new CDIP (AHIMA) test while it is in beta and she will pay for it. I am not required to take it.

The deadline to register for it while in beta is November 30 with a testing date by December 9. The beta test is discounted to $149/members, $199/non-members.

Is anyone else planning in taking the test? I will NOT let my CCDS lapse, but for me, further validation of my CDI skills can only enhance my career trajectory.

Mark

    Hi Mark

I looked at it...but, am not so familiar with everything in the Clinical
& Coding Practice (22 - 26% of the test) -- so, I was waiting to hear
feedback on the test before really looking in to it more.

Good luck if you are taking it!

  • I am waiting on my confirmation from AHIMA.

  • How much time is allotted for the test? The RHIA, CCS, and CCS-P exams each took 8 hours. Hoping this one is shorter?

    Paul,

It is 4 hours according to the pdf below on AHIMA.

I ordered the suggested book, though they have no exam prep manual.

I would like to take it but I'm a little intimidated about the
outpatient material stated on the exam. My experience, 10 years, is in
inpatient. Do you think that suggested book will cover outpatient
    sufficiently?

  • I am surprised to see references to CPT assign as CPT codes are not a
factor for MS-DRG assignment. At any rate, having coded CPT as well as
ICD, I agree that CPT is a totally different 'language' and arena.

I am curious as to the amount of 'weight' given for CPT knowledge.
Personally, I find CPT procedure coder more difficult than ICD.

For the record, I have always been opposed to having two totally
different systems to report procedural coding and I truly do not
understand that all parties could not or would not accept the procedure
codes that will be used in conjunction with ICD-10 as the sole system
used to report procedures, eliminating waste and duplication.

Given the specificity and detail stated to be delivered by procedural
coding when ICD-10 is adopted, continued use of two separate systems
is perplexing. It takes a lot of time to keep up with multiple coding
systems and the 'logic' of CPT is sometimes the opposite of ICD.

    Just one opinion.

Seems test is around 4 hours long. There is going to be a study book released next Spring.

I ordered Russos book - have been reading through - it is actually good basic material for a CDI program.

I'm still thinking about taking the test... I've often wondered if tests are easier in their beginning stages or more difficult...?
