PSI and CDI

Other than, severity of illness/risk of mortality and complete documentation to the highest level of specificity has any CDI group added patient safety indicators to their reviews or is it the function of your quality department?

If you have success with this process?

So great to hear another CDI ask this question. We have audited some records in areas that we noted we had issues. No formal plan yet, but we are educating physician groups and exploring options. I would also like to know what others are doing.

We are still hybrid with plans to move to electronic in the near future. I still plan to have the CDI team up on the floors. We have laptops so we can work anywhere, but physician contact is recognized as key here. Physical space is becoming a problem though. Not sure how we will handle that just yet.

We just implemented our EHR but still have paper orders until May 2012. We were up on the floors with our laptops and as mentioned physical space is a problem. We now review records via computer at our desks located in HIM right across from physician lounge. We are expected to round on our units everyday educating not only physicians that we encounter but nursing staff as well.

Hi Sheila, we have added PSI's to our concurrent review process. It has
    been pretty successful so far.
