RE: Anyone else planning on taking the new CDIP testwhile in Beta?

I've received Russo's Clinical Documentation Improvement: Achieving Excellence (the book Mark references below from AHIMA)..
Based on a quick browse, find it very promising. Looking forward to actually reading (and then contemplating), just haven't had the time to get started reading.

Weird -- when this kind of book is exciting to read?

Paul,

It is 4 hours according to the pdf below on AHIMA.

I ordered the suggested book, though they have no exam prep manual.

How much time is allotted for the test? The RHIA, CCS, and CCS-P exams each took 8 hours. Hoping this one is shorter?

My new boss offered me the chance to take the new CDIP (AHIMA) test while it is in beta and she will pay for it. I am not required to take it.

The deadline to register for it while in beta is November 30 with a testing date by December 9. The beta test is discounted to $149/members, $199/non-members.

Is anyone else planning in taking the test? I will NOT let my CCDS lapse, but for me, further validation of my CDI skills can only enhance my career trajectory.

Mark

From the glance and the table of contents, don't think the Russo book with help at all with CPT coding.

You are correct. ACtually there isn't any coding information in the Russo book at all. Some rerences to Coding and the coding dept, and coders from a CDI program perspective but no actual "coding". The CCDS Study book has more Coding info.

Now,if tthere are questions regarding CDI programs, repoerting - more program quetstions; personnel or management- then it is a vauable tool.

Ok, I took the CDIP test today. Their code of ethics and their copyright precludes me talking much about it, but overall, it wasn't so bad.

It will take up to 3 months for me to get the results as they have to aggregate all the data, compare everyone who took the test, perform data analysis on the questions, and then decide what is a passing score to then report the scores and passing status to the beta candidates. Phew, that was a mouthful.

The test was 175 questions, had 4 hours to do it. I completed the test in 2hr15min, and spent the next 40 minutes reviewing my answers. I only changed 3 answers. There were about 10 questions that I had absolutely no idea, but could at least narrow down to two answers.

All multiple choice, no books or any other resource allowed. No study manual. To prepare I read Russo's book, CCDS study guide (again), all AHIMA guidance articles, Coding Guidelines, HCPCS Guidelines, CPT Guidelines, and some other resources I came across. I felt pretty prepared. Let's hope my score validates my feelings!

    Regards,

    Mark
