ICU productivity

An ACDIS member could use some help determining an accurate measurement for ICU reviews. Can't find anything. % for productivity (number of reviews divided by total number of discharges) does not work for ICUs as it does for regular nursing floors (since so few pts are discharged from ICU). So have you heard of or know of a resource for determining what is a reasonable review measurement for ICU

  • Can't offer any advice as we have not attempted to stratify our efforts in this manner - we are not 'that specific'.
Speaking from personal experience, our ICU casea are actually 'easier' to assign a rough MS-DRG because this particular group of providers document very well. In a way, this is logical as the acute decompensations are generally apparent, well-defined and stated. I personally find more need to query on general Med-Surg cases as opposed to ICU - this is my anecdotcal opinion. Hence, our productivity for this class is not an issue at this time.
