CDIS examination

I am preparing to take the CDIS exam. I have had a good deal of experience in coding DRG's and am feeling relatively comfortable with the CDIS study guide material. At what point might I bite the bullet and take this test. I sure would hate to pay that fee more than once.
I have been working as a solo CDIS for the last 7 months. Prior to that I worked in Case Management for about 2 years, which involved daily "starter" DRG assignments; I received a basic coding certification from AHIMA as a CCA.
Other experience includes 30+ years as an RN in multiple areas of nursing, 4+ years in Medical Neccessity Review, several years of outpatient coding....

I would really apprecaite some words of encouragement...and wisdom from you all.

Thanks,
Joan

I say take it when you feel comfortable. Take your time and read each question. Good Luck!

    Hi Joan,
I had 1.5 years experience as a CDI when I took the test. Challenging in that the metrics questions were the hardest for me... The clinical questions were the easiest. Make sure you know IPPS!!!
I think there is a minimum requirement for 1 year doing CDI to sit for certification, so if you are saying you have been 7 months, you may need to check that out to see if you qualify. Good thing, it will give you a little more time to study...
    GOOD LUCK!!!

    Hi Joan,
There is a study guide you can purchase. I took the very first test before there was a study guide, and had been a CDIS for about 2 years. I think the on-the-job experience gave me a good knowledge base in order to be able to pass without having something to study. A coworker took it after the study guide came out. She said it was helpful.
