Does anyone use the 3M ClinTrac Software?

We recently (6 months ago) purchased the newest version of ClinTrac software from 3M for our CDS team. It will be a wonderful product once we are able to truly understand all it can do to data collect. At this point, we are challenged by the reports it generates. I was hoping to find another institution that uses this product and direct them with some specific questions. I must admit we have had a few struggles maintaining good communication with the Vendor and are not receiving the support we need.
If anyone has any thoughts or guidance on this, I would greatly appreciate your input. Please feel free to contact me directly as well. Thank you.

We have used it for two years. Reports are not robust enough. They
tend to lack depth and concentrate on "bean counting". Customer/Client
support is lean. I don't mean lean in a good way.

I know there are folks out there who disagree with me and that's fine
But times have changed and the methodology and strategy needs to change
    as well.

In addition to 3M for CAC and CDI, we are also exploring Dolby’s Fusion and Optum (for CAC, no CDI yet). Any thoughts, feedback, suggestions?

Hello! We implemented CDR2/Claro at our institution over a year ago! We had been a paper DRG system/program that was focused on reimbursement and matching DRG's with the coders. By converting to this computerized system roughly 18 months ago-we now are aimed more at Quality . Speaking for myself and the other members of my CDS team, we love this program. Initially, as with everything, there was a learning curve and we didn't know if we would care for the system. However, the support has been great from the members of the Claro team, and it has increased the number of patients we are able to see and is far more specific in audit capability than we had before.
The really nice thing about this system, is they can adapt/build/tweak the system to your specific needs. I love the fact the query response rate is physician specific, and actually tells you what the response rate is. There are so many areas we are able to audit with this system-so it lets us focus on areas for improvement for both physicians as well as for the CDS.
I will also tell you, the follow up from Claro was not only related to the actual computer program but "how and what" we could do for our specific program relative to areas to focus on for querying ect. They educated us on OUR needs.
It is pretty user friendly and a great way for the coders and I to remain connected about a patient. We used to email about issues and retrospective queries, and now just use CDR2 for those issues.
Follow up from Claro is every 6 months as long as you hold the contract and they come and actually audit charts and show areas for improvement. The areas of audit not only pertain to us as the CDS but for the institution at large and metrics for mortality, o/e ratio, financial overview, physician response, DRG performance ratios, couplets/pairs, quality focus areas, GMLOS, ROM, SOI, scorecards for each specialty...and a myriad of other functions. I know not only for the CDS, but for the "C" suites it provides valuable information.
I will tell you, ONE of the things I do not like is that we would like to be able to "highlight" or "bold" certain text items and we were told over a year ago "that was in the works", but have heard nothing more. I assume we have to "upgrade" to get those features. Overall, it has been really helpful. We worked with Claro when we got the program, and moved "fields" around to suit our needs, we changed "pull down" verbiage to terms we used and generally just rearranged areas to help with how "we" worked for our program. We don't get to see ALL of our Medicare population due to the high census and ratio to CDS (something I am sure other institutions are feeling) but is has enabled us to increase the number of patients we do see.
Hope this helps! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

We have Meditech 6.0 but not any CDI module, I asked but no one seemed to know if they had one including the trainer. Are you using for CDI?

  • We also use CLARO and I have been very happy with what has been provided. I agree with Juli's prior response. However, I have no experience with anything other than CLARO, we implemented it when I was hired and started our program over a year ago. I will say, although I know many of us do not like many of the "bean-counting" data, CLARO's pretty graphs showing our impact seems to go over VERY well with senior leadership.

  • We do not use 3M's ClinTrac, however we do use CDIS. This morning one of our data analysts and I were trying to determine why the financial impact report data can't be reproduced using data from several other programs we have, even when we drill down to the account level. I suspect the CDIS data is "raw" and makes no distinction regarding the discharge disposition impact on final reimbursement. We will ask the question of 3M, but I must concur that the training we had specific to the canned reports was minimal. If you want training to be able to write yor own reports, you must pay extra and we didn't. So we must wait for an answer to a question posted to the 3M support website. Our experience has been that this takes generally a week or more, and may or may not answer your question. Caveat emptor!
