Myocardial Injury

Based on the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Fourth Universal definition of Myocardial Infarction (2018), the term Myocardial Injury was introduced as a diagnosis for elevated troponins which does not have a code assignment.  Our physicians have not adopted this term yet but if they do, we have decided it would result in a query. Does anybody have any advice on how to write a query / what choices you would give?  Or any other advice on how to approach this?  What are other facilities doing?Thank You,Christine Butka RN MSNManager Clinical Documentation Improvement

  • There several excellent articles on this site regarding this topic and current “universal definition’ of myocardial infarction.   Have you had a chance to review them in the resources?   Clinical citations....coding rules and query formulations are provided.
  • Thanks Paul,

Can you reference any one article that I could review?  Are they on the ACDIS site?  I'm really interested in how to write the query and what choices to give

  • Yes:  Go to ‘resources’ and search for myocardial infarction
