  • I would like to have the same information, please!
  • Is there a webcast on June 21 entitled "Expansion of CDI to outpatient and physician services: a growing trend?" Or is this sponsored by 3M? I have been unable to find any information on this web site.
  • There was an excellent presentation at the conference on the topic of an Outpatient CDI program -- by the folks at the Oeschner (sp?) health system.  Check the conference materials for the ppt.

  • I attended an excellent webinar by 3M that spoke about outpatient coding explaining the HCC's.  I would search their website.  Our hospital purchased the webinar and I learned much from it.

  • Not sure if you've seen this yet or not, but here's the White Paper from ACDIS related to outpatient CDI. Hope it attached.

First Steps in Outpatient CDI: Tips and Tools for Building a Program

Anny P. Yuen, RHIA, CCS, CCDS, CDIP
Page Knauss, BSN, RN, LNC, ACM, CPC, CDEO
Find best practices and helpful advice for getting started in outpatient CDI with First Steps in Outpatient CDI: Tips and Tools for Building a Program. This first-of-its-kind book provides an overview of what outpatient CDI entails, covers industry guidance and standards for outpatient documentation, reviews the duties of outpatient CDI specialists, and examines how to obtain backing from leadership.
Accurate documentation is important not just for code assignment, but also for a variety of quality and reimbursement concerns. In the past decade, outpatient visits increased by 44% while hospital visits decreased by nearly 20%, according to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. However, just because physicians are outside the hospital walls doesn’t mean they’re free from documentation challenges. For these reasons, CDI programs are offering their assistance to physician practices, ambulatory surgical centers, and even emergency rooms. This book will explore those opportunities and take a look at how others are expanding their record review efforts in the outpatient world.
    This book will help you:
    • Target the outpatient settings that offer the greatest CDI opportunities
    • Understand the quality and payment initiatives affecting outpatient services
    • Understand the coding differences between inpatient and outpatient settings
    • Identify data targets
    • Incorporate physician needs to ensure support for program expansion
    • Assess needs by program type

  • We have purchased the above reference and found it helpful and reaffirmed many of the actions we have already taken in setting up our program.

  • Does anyone have an example template/or query that they would be willing to share for outpatient CDI, starting a program concentrating at this point on Oncology outpatient infusions, and ED E&M. Any information would be helpful. Have downloaded the power points and are purchasing the above book but an example that is in use would be helpful as well.

    Thank you

I'm not sure if you are still looking for information on query templates in the OP setting but I can share with you our basic format. I have been in the OP area of CDI for the last several years and am always looking to network with others to exchange information. Thanks

  • Hello:
New to this forum and ACDIS. I am looking for templates (Excel) or suggestions for capturing metrics with our new CDI program for our Ophthalmology office. I am new to CDI and new to this field. This office uses scribes which is great; the con, the scribes are not certified or lacking in Coding guidelines. I have taken on a challenging role! Thanks for your advice!

    Sincerely,
    Lovina Farden, CCS,CPC,COC

  • Hello,

It looks like there is discussion around CDI Outpatient programs. We are currently looking into what way to start a CDI program for out patient.  I work for a specialty hospital for cancer treatment. Would anyone be willing to share what they have done to start an Outpatient program and what area they started with.  Also we are looking for suggestions for capturing metrics and measurements of impact.  We are also using Epic so if anyone can include what workflow and reports you are able to get would be helpful.

    Sincerely,

    Corrine Byrd, RHIT
