BMI with bilateral amputations
We have had 2 cases recently where the height was measured base on the actual height of the patient who had bilateral leg amputations which was approximately 3 feet the BMi was then calculated with their weight and a BMI of > 70 was documented. I always ask my CDI specialists to do a common sense check on the BMI's when they are looking at them. The question is should we be trying to get this fixed so that the coders do not place a query? Has anyone else ever encountered this?
